Livelihood and leaving

You might know stories of farmers who worked extremely hard for little or no return; their experiences of drought, governments, sanctions, and tariffs all taking a toll on their livelihood. Dare I mention it, but there are also stories of undiagnosed mental illness, early death, disease, relationship breakdowns, and a whole host of unexplained reasons as to why people left the land.

Each picture below tells a story. While I am not aware of all the individual stories of the old machinery and equipment, it is my hope that these images revive memories of those who have left their farms.

These photos represent an effort to capture the memories of working family farms, of people who have lived, loved, and left the country life.

The photos in this series highlight the remnants of the machinery left behind, parked up, or replaced. They can be found in paddocks, left where they were last used, or where they simply broke down.
