When daughters leave home
Imagine your children leaving for boarding school before they become teenagers. My three daughters left the farm between the age of 12 and 13, and sad to say, they never really came back. That’s young to leave your hometown. As a mother, I found this extremely hard. Spending time with them now as adults are one of the main reasons why I want to leave the farm.
All three went to a private girls’ boarding school, and are now fully independent, leading their own lives, having obtained university degrees, professional careers, fun boyfriends and busy lives.
So, what role does a country mother have in the life of their adult daughters once they have experienced the city and have then decided that it is preferable to the town in which they were raised?
This is them on a recent outing to the Kalamunda hills for a hike, coffee, massage and farmer markets. One daughter organised the outing to include me. Sitting in the back seat of the car, I was overwhelmed with pride, joy, happiness, and a full heart.
